I know...I know. It's been a looooooooong time since I've posted a REAL Arvellesque blog and I apologize for that. You see, what had happened was ... (true story), my darn laptop crashed on me. I don't know why, but it did and I was NOT a happy camper when that happened. It's still down for the count. I was so unhappy, I stopped doing my Age of Aquarius blogs...I just didn't care.
But I care about Black History month, though. While everyone is posting REAL and MEANINGFUL posts about Black History Month all over social media, I thought I'd do a lil' spin on it. Someone posted a list of funny "little known Black History Facts" on a site that I frequent about a month or so ago and I told myself that when Black History Month rolls around, I will post one a day. I hope that you enjoy my sense of humor. If not, please stop reading those posts. They'll end on the 28th since Black History Month falls on the SHORTEST...MONTH...OF THE YEAR!!! (Woosah!! I promised myself that I wouldn't go there...Breathe Arvell, breathe!)
First of all, let me thank the Lord for his many blessings. GOD is SOOO GOOD! If you don't believe in him, then you need to start. He has been very good to me and my family this year and especially in the month of February and we're only on Day 4! On a whim, my wife and I decided to ride out to Athens, Ga for a quick jaunt. With January in tow, we rode up 285 (traffic) to 85 (more traffic) to 316 (Dayam...is everyone going to Athens today? Super Traffic!) and ended up at our Alma Mater (UGA! Go Dawgs!) later than we had wanted to. We really weren't on a schedule so it didn't bother us to much. That night, we met up with my friend and former college radio co-host, Spenser "Spenserious" Simrill, and he took us out to this fancy BBQ restaurant. We had a really good time even though the collard greens weren't cooked right and tasted like pan seared spinach, but that 1/2 chicken and house bbq sauce was on point! We also met Spenser's fiancee'. She's pretty cool. They've been engaged for 6 months and he looks happy, so I'm really happy for my friend.
Knowing that we'd be in town, my friend Qiana, invited us to stay at their new home in Hull, just right outside of Athens. You know, just past Athens Tech. It was late, we were sleepy and the directions that I took were poor because I was barely concentrating. Oh, and my phone was dying...and Carmen's was dead. Guess what? We got lost...we went waaaaaay out of the way and I kept having this feeling that Carmen was thinkin' "eff it, let's just go back to Atlanta or get a hotel room somewhere!" lol. We went to a hotel...to call Qiana. She told us to stay put and she came to guide us back to her home. And what a lovely home it is. Huge back yard, high ceilings, big rooms...I am soooo proud of my friend and her family. It was around one and people were watching movies, eating pizza and drinking. If I wasn't so tired, I would have stayed up to watch a 2.5hr movie that most of you may have already seen this year. I'm not listing any titles...but there is a silent letter involved. In the morning the fam cooked breakfast and January played with the kids. Everyone had a ball in Athens. Truth be told, Athens is our sanctuary. Whenever we need a recharge, a trip to Athens ALWAYS does the trick, especially if we can get some Raisin' Canes chicken tenders before we leave. I'm still on cloud 9 from that day trip!
Did your team win the Super Bowl? Mine didn't and that's only because the Falcons were eliminated in the Playoffs by the 49ers. So you already know that I wasn't cheering for the 49ers...I'm still a bit salty. I cheered for the Ravens and I'm glad that they won, but when that blackout happened during the beginning of the 3rd quarter, I knew somethin' sneaky was up. I wasn't surprised by the "sudden" turnaround by the 49ers. These fools almost won the game on some suspect bullcrap! If they would've won, the Super Bowl would have been tarnished for me. Thank you Ravens for keepin' hope alive in my heart for the NFL!
As far as today is concerned, did you know that February 4th is Rosa Parks' birthday? Yup! I think should would've been 100. If you read my Black History blog, you would've seen it! lol. I've forgiven here though for hating on OutKast! I blame 'her people' for that.
Today is also my cousin, Tosha's, birthday. She's more like a sister to me. We grew up together, buddies, thick as thieves. That's how I want January and her cousin, JaKobe, to grow up. You gotta have your cousins if nothing else, ya know?
I was honored to attend my friend, Naville's, wedding today. It was a lovely service, even though we had to wait awhile for him to go home and get the marriage certificate. It remind me of the blackout at the Super Bowl. Stall for time...stall for time. Everything worked it because it gave people time to mingle and whatnot and the people who showed up late were actually early! I wish him and his lovely wife, Maiko, nothing but happiness and continued blessings. Afterwards, we all went out to eat and had a great time. I am really happy for my friend. He's a great dude and father. Now he's going to be an awesome husband. Big shoutouts to Mr. B! I haven't seen that dude in a minute!
That's my time. I didn't mean to write all of this, but I guess I wanted to catch you all up on everything. I'm sleepy, so remind me to tell you all about the late night fan experience I had at McDonald's yesterday. Yeah, the cashier hit me with the "Have you ever been on TV?" You think you know, but you have Noooo idea how this plays out. lol
Keep me in your prayers and send me some good vibes. Tomorrow is the day when I found out if/when a dream of mine comes true. My money is on "when." I am soooooooooo excited! Nervous, but excited. Like I said earlier, GOD IS GOOD!
I am...
